engineer with the Southern Company. He spoke with TES, TMS, and THS students
about the importance of choices they make now and in the future. "If you
believe you can, you are right. And if you believe you can't, you are also

Mrs. Duff's guest speaker at TMS was Mrs. Susan
Davis with the Alabama Power Company. She presented a program on power safety
and shared all the careers you could have with Alabama Power. |

Master Sergeant William "Mac"
McNair spoke to Mrs. Hare's 7th grade Social Studies classes at TMS about the
military. He explained a typical day in the life of a soldier beginning with
basic training.
He shared some of his personal experiences and talked about a few of the
fascinating places he has been around the world.
He ended each class by allowing the students to sample the MRE's (meals
ready to eat).

R.T. Floyd is in his thirty-fifth year of
providing athletic training services for the University of West Alabama.
Currently, he serves as the program director for the University of West
Alabama's Athletic Training & Sports Medicine Center and is also a professor
in the Department of Physical Education and Athletic Training, which he
chairs. He spoke with the students at TMS.

Dr. Jerry Schreiner came to Coach Hankins 1st
block Anatomy and Physiology Class at THS. They discussed several bone
disorders, myths, and college classes for different careers. |

Miss Brandi Webb and Miss Megan Rowlett from
First United Security Bank spoke to the sixth grade classes at TMS about
banking. They discussed the importance of saving and managing money and how to
use the numerous services that a bank offers. They also explained the various
opportunities for career choices that a bank offers. The students enjoyed
their presentations and were rewarded for their attentiveness with notepads
and pencils. Several lucky students received special prizes for answering
questions correctly.
The job description for
advocates is as follows:
- Assist when the bank is called upon to be
involved in financial literacy efforts (classrooms, organizations, and
events).
- Scan newspapers for possibilities to
promote non-profit events through offering radio advertising.
- Assist with planning customer appreciation
events and activities.
- Participate in regularly scheduled
marketing webinars within the bank to share, evaluate, and implement new bank
programs and products (at least once quarterly).

Mrs. Lisa Crawford and Mrs. Vickie Morris came
and spoke with Mrs. Hutto's TES class for Career Week. Mrs. Crawford is a
native of Australia and she compared common careers there with common careers
in our area. We learned so many new things from her!! Mrs. Vickie Morris came
to our class and discussed her career as a teacher and reading coach. We
learned a lot about all the roles that a teacher really has!! She helped us to
think about what we may want to be one day!!

Jeff Adams from Blue Cross/Blue Shield spoke to
Career Tech students at THS about Business Ethics and Interviewing.

This is Mrs. Salter (L) and Chloe Simmons (R).
Chloe is the State FBLA Vice President. She is from Satsuma High School and
Mrs. Salter is her sponsor. She spoke to the students about the benefits of
FBLA and how the organization can make a difference.

Mr. Jack Brewer visited Mrs. Hamilton's 2nd
grade class to discuss his job at Lewis Pest Control. He also talked with the
students about the importance of honesty, dependability, and being drug free
in the workplace. |

Stephanie Hutchison, Stephanie Smith, Kent Jones
and Earl Parrish from Boise Cascade visited the second graders at Thomasville
Elementary School. They presented a wonderful power point presentation on the
day to day operation of the mill. After the presentation each student had the
opportunity to make a piece of paper. |

Mrs. Parrish's second grade class was very
fortunate to have a number of people come and talk about their careers.
Officer Toby Knight came and discussed how much he enjoys his job as a
Thomasville Police Officer. He did a great job explaining how he protects and
serves our community. Dr. Walter's also came to visit. Dr. Walters told us how
rewarding being a dentist is. He enjoys his job and LOVES helping people.
Chris McCants from State Farm Insurance also dropped by to explain what an
insurance agent's role is in our community. He loves being able to help people
when they are in need.
