Resonance or voice disorders include problems with pitch, volume, or quality of a child's voice that distracts listeners from what is being said. Hyponasal or hypernasal speech may be present in which a child's speech sounds like he has a "cold." Therapy for voice disorders focuses on proper vocal use, and breathing techniques. Treatable voice disorders, such as vocal abuse, hoarseness, breathiness may be caused by vocal abuse such as screaming at a ballgame and yelling on the playground.
