COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This class is divided into two sections. Drama – Students will gain practical experiences in drama by participating in individual and group projects, bout impromptu and those requiring planning, organization, and rehearsal. A study of theater terminology, history, criticism, aesthetics, and production process will be included in the course. There are two overall aims for the class. One is for students to develop a standard of judgement whereby they can recognize and respect good theater. The other aim is the active participation in the drama process and competition schedule, unless otherwise discussed with the teacher.
Speech – The goal of this class is to provide students with specific skills necessary in preparing speeches for a variety of purposes and a variety of speaking situations. The interrelated elements of communication process are used as listening and critical thinking tools in improving speaking skills not only for everyday purposes but also for future career possibilities. Opportunities to compete in debate and speech competitions will be offered and students are encouraged to participate.
