This course will include an in-depth study of drawing in a
variety of media, watercolor and acrylic painting, and beginning block
sculpture. An art history term paper is required.
- ADVANCED ART Fee:
$25 Prerequisite: Art I and teacher approval
This course is for students with exceptional interest and/or
ability in art. Most class work is done on an individual basis.
Each student concentrates on his own areas of interest. An art history
term paper is required.
- MARCHING BAND Fee: $15
Prerequisite: Beginner Band II and teacher approval
- Students will participate in music making through rehearsal, individual
practice and performance. The marching band will perform at all
football games, compete at a marching band festival, march in several
parades and end the term with a Christmas concert. Summer band camp is
required. Attendance is required at all public performances and after
school rehearsals.
- CONCERT BAND Fee: $10
Prerequisite: Beginner Band II and teacher approval
- Students will participate in music making through rehearsal, individual
practice and performance. The concert band will compete at District
VII concert band competition, perform at the elementary school, and give a
concert in the spring. Attendance is required at all public
performances and after school rehearsals.
- BEGINNER GUITAR CLASS Fee: $10
Prerequisite: Each student must have a guitar and teacher approval
- Students will learn basic music concepts including music reading, rhythm,
harmony, melody, and chords. Students will learn all the essentials of
guitar playing including proper hand position, chords, tuning, various
strumming patterns, various fingering patterns, note recognition and playing
along with other musicians.
- MUSIC/ART APPRECIATION
- This course will split the term into two nine-week sections. One
section will deal with art appreciation; one will deal with music
appreciation.
- Music Appreciation: Students will gain a deeper knowledge of
music through the study of the basic elements of music including rhythm,
harmony, melody, and form. The emphasis will be on listening.
Many different styles of music from around the world and from all periods of
music history will be presented. Using musical terms, students will be
able to write about and discuss what they hear in any piece of music.
- Art Appreciation: This course is an introduction to art
through the study of various artists, styles, and movements. Analysis
of various artworks will be expected in order to achieve an understanding
and appreciation of art.
