  • INTRODUCTION TO ALGEBRA   Grade 9                          Prerequisite:  Teacher recommendation

This course offers a transition between arithmetic and algebra.  Attention is given to basic algebraic properties as well as basic geometric properties.  Students who have not taken Pre-Algebra in eighth grade should take this class.

  • ALGEBRA I                                                                        Prerequisite: (1) Pre-Algebra (2) Teacher recommendation

Algebra I is designed primarily for the student who is pursuing a college preparatory program, but the student who is considering any postsecondary program which requires knowledge of Algebra I is also encouraged to enroll.  The basic structure of the real number system is studied in detail with emphasis placed on the algebraic properties and operations.  The application of algebra to life situations is integrated into all topics covered in the course.  Students who have successfully completed Algebra I may not enroll in Intro. to Algebra.

  • ALGEBRA IA   Grades 9-11;                                                   Prerequisite:  Pre-Algebra or Intro. to Algebra

Algebra IA is designed to be the first in a two-course sequence to meet the state requirements for Algebra I.  Learning the basic properties of algebra, working with real numbers, solving equations and word problems, applying the four basic operations to polynomials, and factoring polynomials will be covered in this course.

  • ALGEBRA IB   Grades 9-11;                                              Prerequisite:  Algebra IA

Algebra IB is the second course in a two-course sequence to meet the state requirements for Algebra I.  The student must successfully complete Algebra IA and IB to meet the requirements for Algebra I.  This course will continue the study of Algebra by working with algebraic fractions, functions, systems of linear equations, inequalities, and rational and irrational numbers.

  • GEOMETRY                                                                              Prerequisite:  Algebra I

Geometry seeks to integrate the skills acquired in Algebra I to the concepts taught in geometry.  Students are encouraged to develop logical thinking skills through study of the Euclidean system of geometry.  Students should be prepared for Algebra II through development of problem solving skills.

  • GEOMETRY A                                                                          Prerequisite:  Algebra I

Geometry A is the first course in a two-course sequence to meet the state requirements for Geometry.  Topics covered include parallel and perpendicular lines, polygons, similarity, and basic logic skills.

  • GEOMETRY B                                                                      Prerequisite:  Geometry A

Geometry B is the second course in a two-course sequence to meet the state requirement for Geometry.  The student must successfully complete Geometry A and B to meet the requirements for Geometry.  Concepts involving right triangles, circles, and transformations are included.  The Euclidean logic system is developed further.

  • ALGEBRA II   Grades 10-12;                                              Prerequisite:  Geometry, "C" average recommendation

Algebra II is an expansion of the concepts learned in Algebra I incorporated with the logical thinking skills acquired in Geometry.  The student should gain further understanding and use of algebraic structure and techniques.

  • ADVANCED MATHEMATICS   Grades 11-12;                           Prerequisite:  Algebra II, "B" average recommended

This is a college preparatory course designed to provide students with the foundation to succeed in mathematics courses on the college level.  Use of both scientific and graphing calculators is encouraged so that students may concentrate on thinking skills rather than computation.  Pre-Calculus skills are emphasized.

  • MATHEMATICS IN SOCIETY   Grades 11-12;                             Prerequisite:  Teacher recommendation

This is a course designed to assist eleventh and twelfth grade students in their preparations to live independently as consumers in today's technological world.  Emphasis is placed on the mathematical skills and understanding needed for consumer and business applications.

  • STATISTICS   Grades 11-12;                                             Prerequisite:  Algebra II with a "C" average

This class is an introductory class for students who plan to attend college or technical school after graduation.  Topics covered include frequency distributions, measures of central tendency, probability, sampling methods, hypothesis, and analysis.  Emphasis is based on research.
