- INTRODUCTION TO BIOLOGY Grade 10
This course is the study of basic principles of scientific
functions relating to everyday living. Topics will include scientific
method, the cell, and survey of the five kingdoms of living things.
This course is designed for students who would not ordinarily enroll in
biology, but need a life science credit to fulfill graduation
requirements. Students who have successfully completed CP or Advanced
Biology may not enroll in Introduction to Biology.
- ZOOLOGY Grades 11-12; Fee:
$20;
Prerequisite: A life science
This course is a survey of the animal kingdom including
identification, structure, and function of each animal group. Major
emphasis will be placed on the study of vertebrates.
- ECOLOGY Grades 11-12; Fee:
$20;
Prerequisite: A life science
This course surveys basic principles of the science of
ecology. It examines the relationships between individual organisms
and their environments, the structure and function of populations,
communities and ecosystems.
- INTRODUCTION TO PHYSICAL SCIENCE
Grade 9
This course is designed for those students who need a
physical science to meet the state requirement. Concepts of physics
and chemistry including motion, force, electricity, magnetism, waves, light
sound, the atom and its structure are covered. Math skills are held to
a minimum, and there are no lab applications.
- COLLEGE PREP BIOLOGY Grade
10; Fee:
$20; Prerequisite: "B" average in previous life science course
& teacher approval
This course is the study of living things and how they are
set apart from the nonliving. Topics include cell, heredity,
reproduction, classification, plant and animal life, and ecological
relationships. Laboratory investigations are included. A leaf
collection and an insect collection are required.
- ADVANCED BIOLOGY Grades
11-12; Fee:
$20; Prerequisite: CP Biology, Advanced Physical Science, & Teacher
approval
This course is for students planning a career in biology,
chemistry, biochemistry or a related field. The course will include
the material presented in first-year college biology courses. A
college textbook will be used. Laboratory investigations are included.
- HUMAN ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY
Grades 11-12; Fee: $20; Prerequisite:
"C" in CP Biology & Teacher approval
This course is the study of structures and functions of
major systems of the human body. General functioning of the body is
stressed by observation, investigation, and dissection of a sheep brain and
fetal pig.
- Advanced Physical Sciences
- ADVANCED PHYSICAL SCIENCE Grade
9; Fee:
$20; Prerequisite: Per-Algebra
This course is designed for students wishing to take a
preparatory course for physics and chemistry. Topics for study include
significant figures, graphing, scientific measurements, problem solving,
classification of matter, structure of matter, chemical reactions, solution
chemistry, mechanics, energy, light and sound waves, electricity and
magnetism.
- CHEMISTRY I Grades
11-12; Fee:
$20; Prerequisite: Algebra II and Advanced Physical Science or Teacher
approval
This course is designed for the college-bound students who
do NOT plan to enter a technical field. The study of matter and how it
reacts will be covered. Chemistry uses math extensively. Rate
and depth of coverage will be accelerated.
- CHEMISTRY II Grades
11-12; Fee:
$20; Prerequisite: Algebra II and Chemistry I
This course is a continuation of Chemistry I. It
includes stoichometry, balancing chemical equations, solution chemistry,
reaction rates, chemical equilibrium, redox reactions, pH, and half-life.
- PHYSICS Grades 11-12; Fee:
$20;
Prerequisite: Geometry, Advanced Physical Science, and enrolled
in/or completed Algebra II
This course involves the study of motion, waves, light,
sound, and electricity.
