Letter from Garth Moss, superintendent, on ending classes for school year 3-26-2020

March 26, 2020

Thomasville City Schools Family

By now I am sure most of you have seen the Governor’s recommendation that schools shut down face to face instruction for the remainder of this school year. Dr. Mackey also stated today that all spring sports and activities are cancelled. This did not catch us by surprise. The number one priority has always been and will continue to be the health and well-being of all of our TCS family. Our administrators, teachers, faculty and staff will continue to do everything we can to meet the educational needs of all of our students.

I know that there are more questions than answers at this time. Rest assured that our team will put together and formulate the best plan of action moving forward for our students. Every one of you need to realize that there is no one size fits all solution to this problem. Every family and every household are different. Our pledge to each of you is to do the very best we can to meet the educational needs of your child during these trying times.

We have a meeting with Dr. Mackey and his staff in the morning to update us and give us our challenge moving forward. We will update you next week on what the learning process will look like.

To our THS seniors, know that we feel you pain and truly understand that this is not how you expected your senior year to end. You are getting one of those life lessons earlier than expected. Life will throw you a curve ball from time to time. Your challenge is to adapt and persevere! There WILL BE a graduation ceremony held in the near future and each of you has a seat reserved. I know in my heart that God has a plan for each and every one of you. Thomasville Tigers always find a way to win!

I pray that each and every one of you stays healthy and well during this unprecedented event. I leave you with these final words of encouragement from the writer of the book of Hebrews, Chapter 12 vs. 1-2. Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.

Garth Moss

Superintendent
