Students in the Thomasville City Schools District will begin instruction for the new year on Jan. 6. However, all students in grades second to 12th will receive virtual instruction only for Jan. 6, 7 and 8, 2021, said Garth Moss, school superintendent.
Paper packets will be available for pre-K, kindergarten and first grade students, and those packets will be sent home before the Christmas holidays.
(Update) Students in second, third and fourth grades will pick up laptops after Christmas break for virtual learning. The date and time of pick up will be announced later.
Classroom instruction will return on Jan. 11. “That gives us a chance to see where we stand as far as the (Coronavirus) positivity rate,” Moss said. State and national public health officials are concerned about how holiday gatherings might provide a spike in COVID cases. “We’re trying to be as cautious as we can before we bring everybody back into campus.”
Six school district buses, which are equipped with a Wi-fi signal, will be placed strategically throughout the area on Jan. 6-8, Moss said. A list of where the buses will be located will be released at a later date.
Parents and students may also use the free wi-fi available in the parking lots of the three campuses.
