The Alabama Reading Initiative (ARI) is a statewide K-12 initiative committed to supporting the development of high-quality instruction that will prepare all students with the literacy skills needed to meet or exceed grade-level standards. The goal of the ARI is to significantly improve reading instruction and ultimately achieve 100 percent literacy among public school students.
Approximately 15 reading coaches from surrounding schools gathered March 12 for an ARI meeting in the Thomasville Elementary School Library.

Winners in the Third and Fourth Grades Division: Emma Anderson, Fourth Runner-up; Paisley Jordan, First Runner-up; Lilyana Harper, Top Beauty; Kinsley Adams, Second Runner-up; and Rayleigh Powell, Third Runner-up.

Winners in the First and Second Grade Division: Lauryn Means, Third Runner-up; Ann Berkley Alford, Second Runner-up; Tyunna Tucker, Top Beauty; Elaina Deshazer, First Runner-up; Meg Davis, Fourth Runner-up; and Paityn Watters, Most Photogenic.

The Pre-K program at Thomasville Elementary School will hold an Easter Egg Hunt on Wednesday, March 27. Pre-K students are allowed to dress out in Spring attire.
Pre-K students will be dismissed early at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 15 at Thomasville Elementary School. This is to allow them to attend Kindergarten registration. Also on this date, Pre-K are wearing green for St. Patrick's Day.

The Thomasville City Board of Education approved Feb. 27 the school system calendar for the 2024-2025 school year.
School calendar update: There will be no E-Learning Days on March 28 and April 26. There will be regular classes on those dates.
The Thomasville City Schools District Wellness Committee on Physical Activity and Nutrition will meet at 1:30 p.m. on March 12 at Thomasville High School. Members of the Thomasville community are invited.
The THS Beauty Review will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 2 in the Thomasville Civic Center. In addition, the TES Beauty Review will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 1 in the Civic Center.
Admission for both events is $10, and tickets are available at the Civic Center Box Office.
