The Thomasville High School Tigers varsity football team (5-4) will host the Clarke County High School Bulldogs (7-2) for the annual “Backyard Brawl” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30 at D.F. Anderson Field.

A “Senior Night” ceremony will be held at approximately 6:30 p.m. before kickoff.

Cash or GoFan will be accepted at the gate.

“Clarke County has got a really good team,” said Clint Anderson, THS Head Football Coach. “We are still really, really young, and they are going to play on emotion. It is going to be one of those games where their skill players (will be a factor). They are big upfront. We are going to be really undersized. We are going to have to stand in there, toe-to-toe, with them in the trenches and be physical with them.”

Jason Massey has returned as head coach at CCHS after years with Leroy.

The Tigers will have to contend with senior running back Omarion Hammond, senior quarterback Jayvion James, senior center Charlie Jordan, and junior H-back/middle linebacker Gavin Washington. “They have a lot of experience across the front,” Anderson said.

“They have a lot more senior starters than we do. That will bode well for them in having an edge.” Anderson said it would be a game where turnovers are critical.

It will be important for the Tigers to tackle in space. “They run a spread style offense that gets them out in space. When we tackle well, we’re able to stop anybody. …It has been the times when we have not tackled well – it has hurt us.”
