Tigers travel Friday to play Greensboro

By Barry H. Hendrix

The Thomasville High School Tigers varsity football team (4-4) will travel Friday, Oct. 24 to play region opponent, the Greensboro High School Raiders (4-4), at 7 p.m. at Robert Lucky Stadium.

Cash or GoFan will be accepted at the gate.

Both teams Friday are competing for a spot in the state playoffs.

“They have a very talented team,” said Clint Anderson, THS Head Football Coach. “They are definitely a challenge. Going on the road presents a different type of challenge. We will have our hands full. We will have to execute and win the turnover battle. We will have to be physical on both sides of the ball.”

The Tigers have to be concerned about the two senior Raider quarterbacks, Kalix Smith and Devin Smith. “They kind of have a two-headed monster.”

Kalix Smith “runs extremely well and throws it pretty well,” Anderson said. Devin Smith is bigger (6-4, 258) “and runs downhill. They get a single-wing look and run him.”

Thomasville will also have to be mindful of senior receiver Adrian Williams Jr. “He is really talented. He has had some big plays.

“…The (Greensboro) linemen do a good job of positioning themselves to create holes. They are a solid team. Defensively, they are fast. They get to the football, bring linebackers and mix up their coverages. It will be where we have to adjust as the game goes along.

“Our guys should be hungry,” Anderson said of his Tigers. “The young guys are starting to get their footing. They are not as shell-shocked as far as being in a varsity role. …We are starting to see them mature.”

The goal this week is to secure a spot in the state playoffs. “You get in, and then anything can happen.”
