The Thomasville High School Tigers varsity football team won 50-16 Oct. 24 at Class 3A, Region 3 opponent, the Greensboro High School Raiders.

The game was played at Robert Lucky Field.

“We came out did what we needed to do – on both sides of the ball,” said Clint Anderson, THS Head Football Coach. “I was really pleased with our defensive effort against their skill guys. They were very athletic.”

Several Tiger players had big games against the Raiders, the coach said, including Brendan Lucy, Jacob Rotton and Cooper Elam. “We had contributions from a lot of different guys, which is important.”

Of course, Hunter Norwood was a steady force on offense and defense. Anderson also noted that C.J. Welch and Tyson Davis had interceptions.

(Due to problems with the scoreboard, times of scores and turnovers are not included.)

Thomasville’s Hunter Norwood scored on a 4-yard touchdown run (first quarter). The point-after kick by C.J. Welch was also good.

The Tigers scored again with 32-yard TD pass from Christian Draper to B.J. Cheeseboro (first quarter).

Greensboro’s Jamarion Dudley intercepted a THS pass in the beginning of the second quarter. The Raiders had the ball on their own 30-yard line, but they couldn’t move the ball and had to punt.

Norwood ran 29 yards for another TD (second quarter). He also added a 2-point conversion. THS led 22-0 at halftime.

The Raiders scored with a 59-yard TD pass from Kalix Smith to Adrian Williams Jr. (third quarter). The 2-point conversion by Devin Smith was also good.

Troy Davis scored for Thomasville on a 58-yard TD run (third quarter). Davis also added a 2-point conversion run.

Greensboro scored again with a 21-yard TD pass from Kalix Smith to Kaden Smith (third quarter). Devin Smith added a Raider 2-point conversion run.

The score was 30-16.

Norwood scored another Tiger TD with a 5-yard run (third quarter). His 2-point conversion run was no good.

Welch intercepted a Raider pass (fourth quarter). Thomasville had the ball on the Raider 25. Four plays later, Davis scored for the Tigers on a 2-yard run (fourth quarter).

Jaron Johnson recovered a Raider fumble at the Tiger 5. Seven plays later, Alvin Patrick ran 11 yards for the TD (fourth quarter).

Tyson Davis intercepted a Greensboro pass near the end of the game. The Tigers ran out the rest of the time in the game.

Thomasville (5-4) will host the Clarke County High School Bulldogs (7-2) for the annual “Backyard Brawl” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30 at D.F. Anderson Field.

A “Senior Night” ceremony will be held before kickoff.

Cash or GoFan will be accepted at the gate.
