Thomasville school board 1-28-26

The following items were considered by the Thomasville City Board of Education at the Jan. 27 meeting in the Thomasville High School Library:

• Members of the school board were recognized as part of “School Board Member Recognition Month.” Board members received gifts from the school system and the three school administrators. The current school board includes Jim Davis, president; Dwight Figgers; Timothy Lance McDaniel; Rita Nichols; and Taylor Williams, vice president.

• A $93,810.00 bid was awarded to Kam Technologies for a information technology cabling project, which will be paid through E-Rate funding.

• The board approved the financial report for December 2025. Payroll totaled $1,125,539.34 (including an incentive bonus), and accounts payable totaled $364,554.41.

• There were first readings for a Library Media Policy and Procedure manual, and a new policy on Communication Assistance for Individuals with Limited English.

• In personnel actions, Wendy Norton, special education teacher, was approved for catastrophic sick leave.

• The following field trips were approved:

An out-of-state field trip for students from Thomasville Elementary School to attend the Mississippi Aquarium on April 17;

An overnight field trip for school system Gifted Program students to attend the Gulf Coast Explorers retreat in Gulf Shores on March 8-10;

An overnight field trip for THS drama students to attend the Alabama Thespian Festival in Vestavia Hills on Feb. 13-15.

• The board went into executive session at the end of the public meeting for a student hearing.

• The next meeting of the school board will be held at 5 p.m. on Feb. 24 in the THS Library. The “Teacher of the Year” and the “Staff Member of the Year” 25-26 from all three campuses will be recognized.
